Henry Roberts was born May 21, 1828 in Kentucky. On February 3, 1850 he was united in marriage to Frances Adeline Stanphill in Johnson County, IL by William Barnwell, J.P. Frances A. Stanphill was born October 1, 1831 in Franklin Co., Alabama, the daughter of Cornelius Stanphill and Martha W. Jones. The Stanphill family lived in Franklin Co., AL in the 1830s and in Lincoln County, Tennessee in the 1840s before locating for a time in Pope County, Illinois. Henry and Frances Adeline were the parents of eleven children - Sarah Jane who married John Barnett Whiteside; John G.; Melissa H,; Mary Kizzar who married Larkin Elias Rumsey; Cornelius who married Elizabeth A. Austin; David L.; Thomas Joshua who married Nancy Evelyn Tramel; Martha Louisa who married John J. Tramel; Manda; Rosette who died in childhood; and William. Henry Roberts was a farmer for most of his life. He and
his wife were members of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church at Rock,
living most of their married life in Pope County, IL. Henry died
December 26, 1892 and is buried in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Rock, Pope
County. Frances A. Stanphill-Roberts married Jessie M. Smith in
1901 and moved to Ozark, Johnson Co., IL where she lived until
her death August 22, 1907. She was laid to rest beside Henry Roberts
and their daughter, Rosette, in Mt. Zion Cemetery. |
